Meet Tomas Larralde

Tomas Larralde, Chief of staff, State Senator Jose Menendez

Tomas Larralde is a native of San Antonio. He received his Master in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and his Bachelor of Arts in government from The University of Texas at Austin. He currently serves as chief of staff for state Sen. José Menéndez where he manages a staff of 10 and advises the senator on policy issues. He previously served as chief of staff for state Sen. Carlos Uresti and former U.S. Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez. 

In addition, he served as executive director for the Hispanic Contractors Association de San Antonio, procurement director and business opportunity manager for the San Antonio Housing Authority, and director of Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) programs at the University of Texas System. He also served as director of the state Senate Hispanic Caucus under the leadership of former state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte. He has had an extensive career serving the Texas Senate including positions as an assistant to the late Sen. Gregory Luna and the late Sen. Frank M. Tejeda.

Larralde has been a faculty member at Palo Alto College and Northwest Vista College, both of which are part of the Alamo Community College District. He has also taught courses at The University of Texas at San Antonio and at St. Mary’s University. 

In addition to his work in the legislature and academia, Larralde served as special assistant to Ricardo Romo, former president of The University of Texas at San Antonio, and he has been involved in many civic activities. 

Larralde currently serves as president-elect of the Northside Education Foundation, and previously served on the City of San Antonio’s Ethics Review Board as an appointee of the mayor. He also served as treasurer for the Greater Kelly Development Authority in which he led redevelopment of the former Kelly Air Force Base.
