Grants The San Antonio Area Foundation awards grants from Donor Advised Trusts and Funds throughout the year based upon receipt of donor recommendations. We also award annual Community and Research Grants from Permanent Trusts and Funds through a competitive application process. PhilosophyHonoring donors' wishes for the betterment of the community has been the fundamental principle behind the San Antonio Area Foundation's grant distribution process for more than 45 years. Upon establishing their funds, donors may specify that a portion or all of their funds be directed toward particular populations (e.g., children with disabilities) or areas of interest (e.g., medicine and healthcare). Other donors provide unrestricted gifts that may be used as needed. Since 1964, we have helped generous donors achieve their charitable goals, granting more than $170 million to local, regional, and national organizations addressing the needs of the community. As leaders in the San Antonio community, our volunteers and staff share the same hopes and dreams as our donors and beneficiary organizations - to improve the lives of our fellow residents and make a positive impact in the region. In 2010, the San Antonio Area Foundation awarded 93 grants totaling $1,789,419 to nonprofit organizations serving Bexar and surrounding counties.
