Join us as we explore the forces of communication, the components of communication and how to implement a few strategies for effective communication in the workplace.


Having the confidence to be a positive communicator and carrying out the intentionality of effective communication is a critical step to effective leadership! When asked what people value most in a leader, nine times out of 10 the top answer is an effective communicator. 

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate the difference between communication and effective communication
  • Define and explain the four forces behind communication
  • Relate the three components of communication in everyday interactions
  • Integrate 12 strategies for effective communication into the workplace

Nonprofit professionals seeking to improve their leadership capacity through effective communication strategies regardless if it is with a colleague, direct report or supervisor.

This workshop is included in our Nonprofit Management Certification series and fulfills three hours in the Leadership competency area.

Meet our Presenter:

Carrie Gray brings 26 years of experience in the areas of resource development, strategy, budgeting, organizational development, community partnerships, communications and creating highly effective teams.  Carrie has led both small and large teams focused on resource development, donor services, marketing & communications, advocacy and volunteer services. She implemented a three year $25 million multi-faceted campaign for an organization with an annual operating budget of $35 million.  Carrie’s most recent position was at the San Antonio Area Foundation as Vice President of Development and Donor Services where she was responsible for leading a 10-person team focused on the engagement of donors, endowment planning with nonprofits and communications. She created the initial communications plan for the planned gift of John L. Santikos. She has also worked for the North Carolina Community Foundation in which she worked with donors in achieving them philanthropic objectives as well as working with partners across the state to develop and implement inclusive philanthropy strategies. She is one of the principals & co-founders of Burnam | Gray LLC, a consulting firm focused on working in tandem with organizations in the areas of strategy, communications, fundraising and program execution.
