Welcome to the San Antonio Area Foundation
...helping donors achieve their charitable goals
for the greater benefit of the community
Established in 1964, we are San Antonio's community foundation. We connect donors to the causes they are
passionate about. We make grants from funds established by individuals, families, businesses or other entities
to support charitable causes in our community. We help nonprofits further their mission.
The Area Foundation has distributed more than $220 million for scholarships and grants to educate youth,
preserve the environment, protect animals, fund research and provide services that enhance the quality of
life for people living in and around San Antonio.
You can open a new fund or make a gift to an existing fund or San Antonio Area Foundation initiative.
We will work closely with you to develop a program of giving that meets your charitable goals.
Your IRA Can Make a Significant Impact. Act Now!
Individuals who are 70½ and older have until December 31, 2013, to make a tax-free transfer up to $100,000
directly from their IRA to charity. If married, each spouse can transfer up to $100,000. All IRA owners who are
70½ and older are required by law to take minimium distributions from their IRA each year. The rollover allows
you to count a charitable gift as part of your required distribution, permitting you to lower your income and your
taxes for this year while helping the charitable causes you care about. The San Antonio Area Foundation has funds
dedicated to supporting our community. Learn more about how your IRA income can make our community a
better place to live while you enjoy valuable tax savings this year.
